"The Coffee Shop" is a mixed media/fiber piece that features the various neighbors that hang out in my local Starbucks
.Although the first Starbucks opened in 1971 in Seattle, I didn’t experience the coffee phenomenon until the early eighties while visiting my family in Los Altos, California. The next time I sat and drank coffee in a local coffee shop was in Santa Cruz where my daughter went daily to study for exams.
Since then, I have been fascinated by the whole coffee culture as it has expanded eastward. I have seen Starbucks stores all over the world, in India, in England, and even in coffee centric Italy.
Since the pandemic, with so many people working from home, I have observed my local store in downtown Denver. It is now not just a place to meet a friend for coffee, but a place to get work done in a different environment than your home office.
In this piece I took pictures and then sketched the various people using an air pen and acrylic paint. Then I painted the figures and created a background. Then the whole piece is
